Oats Khichdi (Hindi Audio) - Simple, Quick and Tasty Breakfast | Oats Recipes

Ingredients for Oats Khichdi

-- 2 Cups Masala Oats (or Plain White Oats)
-- 1 Cup Moong Dal - Soaked in water for 30 Mins. (Split Green Gram)
-- 1 Medium-sized Tomato Finely chopped.
-- 2 Onions Finely chopped.
-- 1/2 Tablespoon Black mustard seeds.
-- 1 Tablespoon Cumin seeds.
-- 2 Green Chilies Finely chopped.
-- 1 Inch Ginger Finely chopped.
-- 8 - 10 Garlic Cloves Finely chopped.
-- Red Chilly powder as per taste (To make it spicy)
-- 1 Tablespoon turmeric Powder
-- 1/2 Tablespoon Garam Masala Powder

For Tempering the Spices
-- Use 2 Tablespoons of Oil / Ghee for the tempering of Spices.

For Garnishing
-- Little Coriander, Finely Chopped for Garnishing

1) Take a pressure cooker and add 2 tablespoons of ghee/oil.
2) Once the ghee/oil is heated, add the Mustard Seeds and Cumin Seeds.
3) When the mustard seeds start popping, Add the Ginger, Garlic and the Green Chilies.
4) Keep stirring it for a while.
5) Once it turns little brownish, Add Onions and the Tomatoes.
6) Keep stirring it again until the onions and tomatoes are cooked.
7) Once the onions have turned golden brown, and the tomatoes are cooked, Add the red chilly powder, turmeric powder and the garam masala powder.
8) And also add the Moong Dal (Split Green Grams)
9) Keep stirring and mix well for atleast 5-7 mins, so that the moong dal is cooked well.
10) Keep stirring continuously so it does not get burnt.
11) Once the dal is semi-cooked, add the masala oats. Because we are using masala oats we will just add 1 tablespoon of salt. If you are using plain oats add 2 tablespoons of salt or as per taste.
12) Mix well and keep stirring.
13) Now add 2-3 glasses of water.
Hint : If you want the khichdi to be thick add only 2 Glasses of water.
14) The reason you see green peas and other veggies in this is because we are using Masala Oats.
Hint : If you are using Plain Oats you can add 1/2 cup of green peas, 1 carrot and little french beans.
15) Add the coriander before covering the pressure cooker. We will now cook it for 2-3 whistles.
16) After 2 - 3 whistles, you open the pressure cooker and the Oats Khichdi is ready to eat.
